Yale consult

We spent the day at Yale today to explore the possibility of a living liver donor. Dylan's blood type is AB+, which makes him a universal recipient. The idea behind a living donor is that Dr. Emre will be able to control when the surgery is done (ideally in July or August) as there are less viruses to worry about in those months. Dylan's PELD score is also relatively low, and a living donor will allow him to be transplanted soon and eliminate the wait for a deceased donor. Dylan will still likely undergo a kidney transplant in the future.

Dave is seriously considering donating a portion of his liver to Dylan. No work-up has been done yet. We are just talking about and exploring this option.

It's Official!

We received a call today that Dylan has officially been listed for transplant. His PELD (Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease) score is 19 and truthfully, I don't know what the range is. I am told that his score is not that high, however his blood type (AB+) can receive organs from various donors so the wait should not be that long. In the meantime, the concentration will be getting him to grow as much as possible for transplant.
